Today, Liverpool Football Club expresses its deep condolences to the 39 fans who tragically lost their lives in the Heysel disaster 40 years ago.

The Liverpool official wrote: "The tragedy that occurred before the Champions League final between Liverpool and Juventus held in Belgium on May 29, 1985, resulted in 39 deaths and hundreds of injuries." Our condolences are with all those affected by this disaster.
At the invitation of Juventus Club, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan and club ambassador Ian Rush will attend the unveiling ceremony of the "Verso Altrove" memorial sculpture in Turin today.
Previously, Liverpool has announced that it will build a new "Forever Bound" memorial facility at Anfield Stadium. Out of respect for the Juventus memorial event, the monument will be officially unveiled later this summer. The new monument will replace the existing memorial plaque at Dalglish Stand and be relocated to a more prominent and accessible area to provide a dedicated space for mourning activities.
This morning, the club's chief legal officer, Bamber, and former player Aldridge had already laid wreaths in front of the existing monument at Anfield. Flags were flown at half-mast at all the club's venues today to express condolences.
"It's a great honor to join Juventus in Turin today to commemorate this tragedy," Hogan said. "We look forward to Juventus representatives attending the unveiling ceremony of the new monument at Anfield this summer." Today, we will also hold a memorial service at Anfield to remember the 39 fans who unfortunately passed away 40 years ago.
Note: Verso Altrove is an Italian word, meaning "to another place"; "Forever Bound" is the name of the newly-built monument in Liverpool and is translated into Chinese as "Eternal Knot".
